Recording Fee Increase
On June 25, 2010, the recording fees in Wisconsin will increase to a flat fee of $30 per document (regardless of the number of pages of the instrument) for most documents that are filed or recorded in the Office of the Register of Deeds.
Although the law permits a Register of Deeds to charge $25, the Registers have elected to charge $30 which includes a $5 fee for the purpose of redacting social security numbers from certain electronic records.
The Registers must reduce the fee to $25 upon the first to occur of the following:
1. completion of redaction of social security numbers from electronic records;
2. January 1, 2012, unless an extension of time is granted by the Department of Administration; or
3. January 1, 2015
You must begin charging this new rate for all recordings to be submitted to the Register of Deeds on June 25, 2010.
